One of the things that is quite hard to nail down properly in a technology heavy startup is how to organize people so that they know what is expected of them without constraining them too much. The approach we have adopted at Zemanta is to have some people (CTO and Product Managers) looking mostly towards the bright future, while having a few people (senior engineers and VP of Engineering) who make sure that the rest of the team is able to follow the company and product vision and does not stray away.
Any resemblance of this organization schema to formations at football is completely intentional.
