GisCloud #VBlatu

Yesterday, Dino Ravnić presented the technology behind their startup GisCloud at #VBlatu lecture series. GisCloud aims to bridge the gap between traditional GIS such as ESRI ArcView and web mapping such as Google or Bing maps. While Google or Bing maps enables general public to get a close peek at every small corner of our earth, it offers only limited ability for visualizing, analyzing and exploring of geographic data. GisCloud enables everybody to upload his data in to the cloud, visualize the data on the map and share the visualization with others. On the technological side, the greatest innovation by GisCloud is, that instead of serving raster tiles (as Google and Bing maps do), they serve vector tiles. This enabled them to implement a very responsive UI using HTML5.

It's amazing what 3 and a half devoted programmers can do all by themselves. No wonder they won Seedcamp 2010. I'm sure we will hear more from this great team soon!
